Thomas Jean Lax is a distinguished writer and curator deeply engaged with Black art and performance. Currently based at MoMA, Lax is co-organizing the exhibition "Just Above Midtown: 1974 to the Present" (2022), in collaboration with Linda Goode Bryant, founder of JAM. Lax’s curatorial work at MoMA has also included significant projects such as "Judson Dance Theater: The Work Is Never Done" (2018) and "Greater New York" (2015). Previously, Lax contributed his expertise at the Studio Museum in Harlem. A native New Yorker with degrees from Brown and Columbia universities, he is now a PhD candidate at New York University, focusing on a performance studies project about mothers. Lax was the inaugural recipient of the Cisneros Research Grant, which supported his research in Brazil in 2020.
