MJ Lenderman, born Mark Jacob Lenderman in 1999 in Asheville, North Carolina, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his raw indie rock sound infused with alt-country elements. He debuted in 2019 with a self-titled album, introducing a unique blend of sardonic humor and poignant storytelling. His third album, Boat Songs (2022), earned widespread critical acclaim and appeared on numerous best-of-the-year lists, solidifying his reputation as a sharp, introspective songwriter. In addition to his solo career, Lenderman is a guitarist and songwriter for the band Wednesday, a key presence in the indie music scene. His 2024 album, Manning Fireworks, released under ANTI-, showcases his evolving artistry with a mix of deadpan humor, tight grooves, and heavy distortion.
