Mariam Issoufou Architects

Mariam Issoufou Architects is an architecture and research firm founded by Mariam Issoufou Kamara, a Nigerien architect renowned for her commitment to socially engaged, contextually grounded, and environmentally responsive design. Formerly operating as Atelier Masōmī, the studio rebranded in 2024 to reflect its growing international presence, with offices in Niamey, New York, and Zurich. Kamara’s architectural journey began after a career in software engineering. She earned her master's degree in architecture from the University of Washington in 2013, where her thesis focused on gender issues in Niger's public spaces. Her work is characterized by a deep engagement with local materials, vernacular techniques, and the socio-cultural dynamics of the communities she serves.
