Studio Roosegaarde is a Dutch social design lab founded by artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde. Blending technology, imagination, and environmental activism, the studio creates interactive installations that improve urban life while addressing pressing ecological issues. Working with a team of designers and engineers, Studio Roosegaarde explores clean air, water, energy, and space as core values, using light as a primary medium. Notable projects include SPARK (biodegradable fireworks), SMOG FREE PROJECT (the world’s first smog vacuum cleaner turning pollution into jewelry), WATERLICHT (a virtual flood installation), VAN GOGH PATH (a glowing bike path), SMART HIGHWAY, URBAN SUN, SEEING STARS, and the world’s largest FIREFLY GARDEN in Bali. Guided by the mantra Schoonheid—meaning both ‘beauty’ and ‘cleanliness’ in Dutch—Studio Roosegaarde believes in design as a catalyst for environmental change and collective imagination.
