Civil Architecture

Civil Architecture is a cultural practice founded by Hamed Bukhamseen and Ali Ismail Karimi, working through buildings and publishing from bases in Manama, Bahrain and Kuwait City, Kuwait. The studio questions what it means to build today and advances a contemporary civic character attuned to a global condition, focusing on the making of architecture and the books that frame it. Recent recognition includes selection for Architectural Digest Middle East’s AD100 2025 list for the Middle East and North Africa, and the studio’s work has been presented in forums such as the Islamic Arts Biennale.
