al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art

Al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art is a research center and archive dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the visual arts of the Arab world. Based at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), it serves as a global nexus for scholarship, fostering international collaboration through conferences, colloquia, and research fellowships. A cornerstone of Al Mawrid's initiatives is the Arab Art Archive, which acquires and digitizes primary source materials related to modern art across the Arab world from 1850 to 1995. This archive encompasses artist writings, journals, correspondence, exhibition materials, newspaper clippings, and photographs, providing invaluable resources for scholars and researchers. Notably, in February 2025, Al Mawrid released five significant collections online, including those of artists Rafa Nasiri, May Muzaffar, Ahmad Nawash, Hanaa Malallah, and Salah Taher, making over 45,000 scans accessible to the public.
