Born in Minnesota in 1988, Shayne Oliver is co-founder of New York City-based label Hood By Air (with Raul Lopez) and diffusion line Classics. After dropping out of both NYU and FIT, Oliver went on to found his eponymous label, infusing it with his passion for music culture and helping to define a new generation of inner-city street wear. Approaching his work with a visceral, conceptual humour, Oliver explores the zeitgeist through an interplay of contrasts; decadence and restraint, sexuality and dogma. Constantly exploring new creative pathways, Oliver also worked as one half of production collective GHE20 G0TH1K and launched music project HBA. Hood By Air won the LVMH Special Jury Prize ” in 2014 and a CFDA award the following year in 2015. Despite the brand’s success, Oliver announced that Hood By Air would be going on hiatus in 2017. During the hiatus, Oliver worked for Helmut Lang, Longchamp, Diesel, and Colmar. In 2020, Oliver announced he and Hood By Air would be returning to fashion, indicating that the line would be split into four sections: Hood By Air, HBA, Museum, and Anonymous Club. 2020 also saw Oliver launch charitable project New World Citizen, for which all proceeds will support BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, police reform, and community arts charities.
