Sara Chaar

Sara Chaar is a Beirut-born visual artist whose abstract paintings are layered acts of construction and erasure—emotional terrains marked by color, texture, and rupture. Working with cold wax and oil on canvas, she builds translucent surfaces only to scratch them open with screwdrivers and blades, revealing and concealing fragments of a visual narrative. Her works unfold like urban palimpsests, echoing cycles of trauma, resilience, and renewal. Anchored in both material intensity and poetic form, Chaar’s practice mirrors the evolution of cities like Beirut—battered, rebuilt, and endlessly redefined.
