Periferica is a grassroots regeneration initiative and cultural platform based in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily. Founded in 2013, the project transforms peripheral and abandoned urban areas through a multidisciplinary practice that merges architecture, art, and social innovation. Emerging from a self-constructed school of thought and making, Periferica engages local communities, students, and professionals in collaborative projects aimed at reactivating underutilized spaces and reframing the narrative around Sicily’s margins. With a methodology rooted in reuse, participation, and long-term vision, the initiative bridges education and action by hosting workshops, residencies, and public interventions. Periferica has become a reference model for decentralized cultural production, demonstrating how architecture and design can empower communities and shape more inclusive, sustainable urban futures.
