Nick Dunston

Nick Dunston is a New York-born, Berlin-based composer, improviser, and sound artist, praised as an “indispensable player on the New York avant-garde” (The New York Times). His work explores themes of ancestral memory, embodiment, and Afro-surrealism, spanning performances across North America and Europe. He has collaborated with Marc Ribot, Vijay Iyer, Moor Mother, and Mary Halvorson, among others, and released seven albums, including Atlantic Extraction (JazzTimes' “debut of 2019”) and COLLA VOCE, an Afro-surrealist anti-opera. A two-time Deutscher Jazzpreis nominee and 2024 SWR Jazz Prize co-winner, Dunston’s compositions have been commissioned by JACK Quartet, Bang on a Can, and Wet Ink Ensemble. His contributions also feature in the Oscar-winning score of Everything Everywhere All At Once.
