

Lulua Alyahya is a painter whose work weaves together imagery and references from various worlds, creating open-ended narratives that leave space for interpretation. Born in Washington D.C. in 1998, Alyahya lives and works in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Her paintings explore culturally resonant themes such as masculinity, beauty, and coming of age, often portraying melancholic, idle protagonists set against dreamlike, undefined backgrounds. Her art embraces a balance between resolution and confusion, inviting the viewer into a space of ambiguity and reflection. Alyahya earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2020. She has exhibited widely, including at Pygostyle (2022) at The Residence Gallery in London and Roundabout (2021) at Athr Gallery in Jeddah. Alyahya was also part of notable exhibitions such as Spacetoons (2021) at Athr Gallery and Right Back at You (2020) at The Function Suite in London. Her accomplishments include receiving the Cass Art Painting Prize in 2020 and a Saudi Ministry of Education Full Merit Scholarship in 2017. Alyahya's work has been featured in publications such as Marfa Journal (2021) and Nurture Mag (2021).
