Leila Bordreuil

Leila Bordreuil is a French-American cellist, composer, and sound artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Renowned for her unconventional approach to the cello, she blends harsh noise, melancholic textures, and site-specific sound-spatialization. Her music defies traditional genres, drawing from noise, contemporary classical, and free jazz traditions. The New York Times described her work as “steadily scathing music, favoring long and corrosive atonalities.” Leila's extreme extended techniques and unorthodox amplification methods often blur the line between instrument and sound system. As an improviser and collaborator, she has shared stages with luminaries like Marina Rosenfeld, Lee Ranaldo, and SENYAWA. Her work has been showcased at prestigious venues including The Whitney Museum, MoMA PS1, and Roulette, alongside festivals like Le Guess Who and All Ears.
