Laura Marling, born February 1, 1990, in Eversley, Hampshire, England, is a celebrated British folk singer-songwriter known for her intricate guitar work and profound lyricism. Growing up in a musical household, she began playing guitar at an early age. At 16, she moved to London, immersing herself in the city’s folk scene and collaborating with acts like Noah and the Whale. Her debut album, Alas, I Cannot Swim (2008), earned a Mercury Prize nomination, setting the stage for a prolific career. Marling has released acclaimed albums such as I Speak Because I Can (2010) and Once I Was an Eagle (2013), both of which received Mercury Prize nods. Her seventh album, Song for Our Daughter (2020), was Grammy-nominated for Best Folk Album. Beyond music, Marling has pursued a master’s degree in psychoanalysis and trained as a yoga instructor.
