Angela Johal, the artist behind Johal Geometrics, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s and 1970s, immersed in the vibrant psychedelic art and music scene. Her smooth, pristine geometric paintings reflect her youth, inspired by California's hard-edged painters and textile designs. Johal describes her work as "chromesthetic geometrics," created intuitively while listening to music, resulting in a synesthetic experience where sound evokes color on the canvas. She believes geometric shapes are universally understood, balancing the visible and invisible worlds. Johal earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from San Jose State University in 1985 and currently paints full-time in her Bay Area studio. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions, such as "Chromesthetic Geometrics" at Bender Gallery in 2021.
