Eman Shafiq is a UAE-based architect, researcher and product designer whose studio pursues material innovation through a mix of digital fabrication and craft. She is the developer of BioSand, a biodegradable material made from UAE desert sand and locally sourced biopolymers that is proposed as a sustainable alternative to concrete and natural stone; its potential has been demonstrated in works such as the Sehra cabinet and through commissions including the trophy for Dubai’s Al Marmoom Film in the Desert festival. Her practice has been presented at platforms such as the UAE Designer Exhibition at Jameel Arts Centre and the Tanween 2021 program by Tashkeel, while her studio, Eman Shafiq Design Studio LLC, is publicly listed as UAE-based.
