Amel Bashier

Amel Bashier (b. 1981, Sudan) is a Sudanese artist whose work is deeply rooted in the stories of her female ancestors, who fought for their rights and wisdom. Her art, inspired by the strength and resilience of these women, serves as a bridge to explore the ongoing struggle of Sudanese women in the modern-day rights movement. Bashier's intricate pen and ink drawings, alongside her pointillist paintings, feature powerful female figures reminiscent of ancient Nubian civilization. These figures, serene yet commanding, are surrounded by nature—plants, birds, and trees. Her meticulous use of thousands of small dots from her pen creates detailed, almost solid compositions. Through her work, Bashier seeks catharsis from the traumas of her homeland, conveying messages of peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness, particularly in the context of Sudan's tumultuous civil wars. Having spent her childhood between Saudi Arabia and Sudan, Amel Bashier now lives in France. She has showcased her work in cities across the globe, including London, Paris, Cairo, Dubai, Nairobi, Sharjah, and Khartoum.
