Alice Gong Xiaowen, a Canadian interdisciplinary artist born in Beijing in 1994, investigates the nuances of materiality and memory through her art. Having studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently an MFA candidate at Yale School of Art, Gong’s practice involves transforming materials like iron, dough, and stone into meditative explorations of loss and preservation. Her work, characterized by repetitive and indexical gestures, seeks to capture and reinterpret the fleeting remnants of personal and cultural narratives. Gong's distinctive approach has been recognized in exhibitions across San Francisco, Toronto, and New York, marking her as a thoughtful voice in contemporary art.
